That just happens to open the door to some very very lazy UX practices that plague Electron-based applications and make them poorly integrate with their respective platforms. The only reason the UI comes into the discussion is because Electron apps are bundled and containerized web apps that use HTML and CSS for styling. Your opinions on material design have zero to do with Electron and whether its pitfalls. I was never big fan of material design thing. Chrome/Chromium is well established as one of the least power-efficient browsers around today and you're basically running one whole containerized Chromium browser for each Electron app.Īs far as the ui goes, it works for me on mobile. That's a much more feature-rich application and a good example of why Electron apps when used for very simple applications are a bloated mess.īecause of this the battery performance over time is going to be much worse with Riot vs Telegram, Signal, etc. It spikes up to around 15MB when it's in the foreground with regular usage like stickers and image previews loaded. On my Windows and Linux desktops Telegram idles at around 6MB. I don't know if you're familiar with common binary sizes, but you're using that as an example as if it's a good number. There's no argument to be found in favor of Riot in your comment. Maybe you're comparing a chat app to a reddit client which should require more RAM. Maybe you just like a bunch of poorly programmed apps. "the other apps" is undefined and without specifically naming what they are and what they do, this is a meaningless platitude. Some native apps use even more than that. I have been watching it on Android and its memory usage is no better or worse than the other apps. You're missing the point and making some pretty wild apples/oranges comparisons, except you're not even naming the oranges so it's more like apples and vegetables.
